Best At Home Workout

About a year or so ago, I was fortunate enough to come across Fit Tv one day when I was channel surfing. It is a very informative channel dedicated to the teaching of health and fitness to the world. There was a certain program I found which seemed interesting and fun, called "Gilad’s Bodies In Motion." The program consists of high energy aerobic exercise mixed with light-weight training (about 5-10 lb. weights).

I started watching and participating in his program every morning when I saw it was on; then literally, the pounds started falling off. The show is about 30 minutes long, but in that time, you are doing some serious working out. The great part about it, though, is that you barely feel like you are doing any work at all. It is enjoyable, high-energy dance moves some days, and the next will be kick-boxing or low-impact aerobics. He also mixes up the weight workouts, doing arms and upper body every other day and lower body and gluts the next, but he always has a great ab work out mixed in with each and a stretch/cool-down segment at the end. He is super fun to work out with and pushes you to the maximum of your abilities every time you get up to exercise with him. It is a really versatile program, tailored for about any body type that you’d want to achieve.

It’s been exactly 11 months since I began the program, and I have lost a total of 65 pounds! The best part is I barely changed the way I ate, other than cutting out fast food and greasy or sugary things like that. However, I still eat the way that I want and the things I want, just in moderation. If you have Fit Tv on your channel listings, I suggest turning it on one day and trying one of Gilad’s segments. It really is worth the time and energy you put into it, and you will 100% see a difference within 2-3 weeks if you continue on the program. If you do not have access to that station, you can try out a few episodes by renting them through Netflix. If you enjoy it, you can also order his videos online through www.bodiesinmotionwithgilad.com. I’d recommend his Cuts and Curves series or Total Body Sculpt. Regardless, I can guarantee with Gilad’s great attitude toward getting you in shape, the awesome results from his program and the way your mind and body will feel after a few workouts with him, you will never set foot in a boring gym again!

The Hidden Dangers in Women's Makeup

The Makeup Wake-up Call-
The Hidden Dangers of Women's Makeup

Most women today probably don’t put much thought into the makeup they are putting on their skin. They most likely have no clue that they are putting over 175 different chemicals on their face, neck, eyes and lips on a daily basis. Chemicals which have been discovered to pose major health and skin risks; these risks include skin allergies, hormonal conditions and even cancer. The most horrifying thing is that there are absolutely no laws in effect today to force cosmetic companies to become accountable and to list the dangers of these chemicals on their labels.

This lengthy list of chemicals includes talc, which is found in most face makeup, eye shadows and even baby powder. This chemical is a carcinogen, meaning cancer causing, and extremely close in chemical compound to asbestos. A study was performed in 1993 by the US National Toxicology Program on cosmetic grade talc, and it was found that even though the powder did not contain the asbestos-like fibers, it did cause cancerous tumors in animals. Numerous studies have also shown a strong link between regular use of talc in the female genital area and ovarian cancer. What's more, because the talc particles are so tiny, they may enter the lungs freely and set up an inflammatory reaction. This reaction may cause frightening health problems, such as pneumonia, lung disease and lung cancer. Yet another chemical found in over 13,000 cosmetics, is Methyl and Propyl and Butyl and Ethyl Paraben. Commonly found in mascara, they are used as an antimicrobial tool and to extend the shelf life of the product. A study performed by Philippa Darbre, an oncology expert at the University of Reading, showed that a chemical form of these parabens were found in 18 of 20 skin tumors tested; indicating they originated by something applied to the skin, such as deodorants, face creams, or body sprays. The existence of in-tact parabens in tumor tissue shows that these chemicals can not only be absorbed through the skin, but can also possibly accrue in human tissue, in their unique form.

There are too many harsh chemicals in cosmetics now-a-days to describe in full detail, but the list continues with silica, which is not harmful by itself, but is often contaminated with crystalline silica which causes cancer, diethanolamine (DEA) and triethanolamine (TEA), Polysorbate 60 or 80, polyoxyethylene, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, PEG, anything ending in "-eth," such as sodium laureth sulfate, Propylene glycol and sodium lauryl sulfate, which is thought to be a carcinogen and is known to be an irritant with extended exposure. There are artificial colors to watch out for, such as D&C and FD&C, which are derived from coal tar, a known cancer causing agent. There are also preservatives, such as formaldehyde, which is a carcinogen, a neurotoxin and irritant. Since the FDA has no regulations or guidelines on the distribution and packaging warnings on modern cosmetics, it is up to you, the consumer, to make an educated decision. There are many more in-depth articles and books written to uncover and list the ingredients found in makeup, as well as “safe”, organic alternatives to makeup that you can find by doing a light web search. I challenge everyone reading this article to stand up and become AWARE about what we are allowing companies to sell to us and what chemicals and preservatives we are allowing to invade our bodies. You are only given one body to work with while you are on this wondrous planet; we need to start acting like it and taking care of ourselves to ensure a future of health, well-being and happiness.

Have a safe and healthy weekend!

The Healing Power of Water & Proper Hydration

In this day and age, the last thing we’d think would be beneficial toward maintaining health and healing ailments is water. However, the truth is that simple, everyday problems from heartburn, to quite serious disease such as diabetes and arthritis can be stabilized, and even possibly cured by consuming one of the world’s most powerful natural resources.

Heartburn, for example, is a signal of water shortage in the upper part of your gastrointestinal tract. This is just one of the major signals your body is giving out to let you know it needs hydration. When we in-take medications to help correct the problem, we are actually only masking it, thus adding further to our body’s distress calls for water. In time, these medications will also generate mass inflammation of the stomach and small intestine, eventually causing cancerous cells to grow in the intestinal tract, as well as in the liver and pancreas.

Low back pain and rheumatoid arthritis are also signs of water shortage in the spinal column, disks and joints. Again, the use of pain-killer medications in these situations does not cure the problem, but does expose the individual to further internal damage caused by the medication in the long run and may even cause osteoporosis when the cartilage cells in the joints have died. This continued treatment will eventually cause the spine and limbs to become deformed, adding to pain and need for surgery in the future.

Adult onset type II diabetes is another way the human body has adjusted to severe dehydration. Your brain needs an adequate water supply in motion; therefore, the release of insulin is repressed to prevent insulin from pushing water into all the body’s cells. In diabetes, only some cells get survival rations of water. Consequently, if a person with diabetes does not in-take the proper hydration needed, in time this will cause mass damage to blood vessels all over the body and may eventually cause loss of lower limbs from gangrene. It may also cause eye damage, even blindness.

As you can see, there are many ways the body sends out its distress call for water. There are headaches, back aches, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, heartburn, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, severe stomach issues, the list goes on. It’s true that the human body is an amazing, adaptive piece of work; however, if you are not providing it with the essential tools needed to perform at its best, it will eventually give out on you. It is no mystery that water is absolutely vital for every single process in the human body, as well as for life in general. The real question is, how invested are you in your body? We only have one while we are on this planet and I hope that each and every person will make a conscious decision to become more attentive to the things we are permitting to enter, and not allowing to enter for that matter.
